Can my dentist just give me antibiotics to heal a tooth infection?
While antibiotics are an excellent option for things like sinus infections or other wounds, they don’t work quite the same way on infected teeth. You see, to do their job, they must travel through the bloodstream and target the infected area. Because the bloodstream cannot access the inside of the teeth, antibiotics have no effect on them. Thus, the only way to treat the infection is either a root canal, or an extraction.
